Vandalism (reward)

The Riverbend Community has experienced a rash of vandalism over the past few months. The Riverbend signs at both entrances have had letters torn off and the spotlights in front of them have been kicked over. Mailboxes have had shingles torn off. Dozens of the sidewalk lights on Riverbend Drive, and along the exterior walkways have been smashed. We have had more than fifty of the lights damaged so far. Some of the lights have even been re-broken after being repaired.

We have spent thousands of dollars fixing and refixing the signs and lights. We are looking at other types of fixtures that are less prone to vandalism. But they are expensive. We’d rather not go that way unless we are forced to. With the long term reserve funds being used to repair water line breaks and repave driveways, we do not have a budget category for this extraordinary expense unless we have a special assessment. That is something that none of us want to do. We are now working with our maintenance people to cover the lights with a Plexiglas, but even that is ineffective if someone is intent on smashing the light.

This $250 REWARD is being offered in hopes of removing the vandalism problem by identifying and prosecuting the punks that are damaging the lights and signs. We are looking at any ideas that you as a homeowner may have to help solve this problem. The North Brunswick Police have been notified, but we need the eyes and ears of the community to report any suspicious activity so that we can deal with the perpetrators and keep Riverbend safe. It’s important. Those lights are a few feet away from our doorways. If someone is brazen enough to remove the light bulbs and smash them right in front of someone’s front door, what will they do next? We’ve got to stop this now.
