I attended the Board meeting of May 19th and I saw the renderings for the entrance project mentioned in a recent mailing. Wow, the entrances are going to look very nice indeed! I can’t wait to see the work completed.

There weren’t any other homeowners in attendance.

Riverbend Entrance Project

Dear Homeowner:

For those that attended the annual meeting last November, you will recall that we presented the results of a study that the Riverbend Board had contracted for. A landscape architect was hired to offer ideas on revitalizing the community. Within the next weeks, you will see the start of that project.

We are making a major effort to upgrade and update each of the Riverbend entrances. After nearly thirty years, the plantings, signage, sidewalks and walls are showing their age. The railroad ties are rotted and need replacement. The signage needs continuous maintenance and the plants have outgrown their proportions. The activity around the school bus stop requires that something be done to reduce the constant mess from stones and damaged plants.

The project was put out to bid and the Board decided on the vendors. Mapleton Nursery will manage the project. They will be replacing the railroad ties with a maintenance free stone wall and removing and replanting appropriate vegetation. Platinum Graphics will replace the existing signs with low maintenance replacements.

The cost is not inconsequential, but the Board has been advised that we cannot go much longer with the existing walls and signs. In the long run, our costs will be reduced by installing these particular low maintenance elements. The current economic climate also allows us to negotiate favorable pricing with the vendors.

The most important fact is that this investment will be a highly visible addition to our community. It will certainly add to the value of each of our homes. That is our most important thought.
