Finding Your Way Around

As you read this piece, the terms article (which tends to be a more traditional term) and post (which is more commonly used when speaking of blogs) are used interchangably. It’s deliberate, sometimes one word just seems a better fit over the other.

When you look at the site you’ll find yourself looking at the most recently added content. But the key to quickly finding specific articles of interest is the use of Categories.

The Board Notices category holds the unscheduled stuff issued by the Riverbend Board of Trustees, newest first. They are reproduced here soon after they are received. But remember, this site has no affiliation with either the Board and Executive Property Management.

Events are kind of a special kind of post. Posts so categorized usually do not appear, but they will if you select the Events category. Instead, events automatically appear in the Upcoming Events listing on the right side of the page and disappear as their dates pass. You can click an event listed there to get more detail. It’s the same with the Calendar – days with events are linked to the event posts. The Calendar, of course, allows you to navigate to more events than does Upcoming Events. Finally, a single event post may be associated with multiple dates – the Recycling post is like that - and when you look at them you may be surprised to find a long list of dates.

The Newsletter Contents category contains postings containing links to each article of one particular newsletter. This mimics the way the old custom-coded site handled newsletter content. These posting also provide the destination for a link at the bottom of each newsletter article, which makes finding a newsletter’s companion articles much more convenient.

Newsletters is where you’ll find – surprise! – the articles that make up all of the Association’s newsletters stored on the site. Usually one newsletter is comprised of several articles, so there’s a subordinate category for each newsletter. These subordinate categories, i.e. June 2001, are indented slightly and carry a number which causes newer issues to float to the top of the list.

Confused? To see all articles of a specific newsletter, click the name of that newsletter, i.e. June 2001. To see a specific article, click the Newsletter Contents category. Scroll to find the newletter of interest and click the article of interest.

And when all else fails, there’s always the Search field at the top right of the screen!
