Recycling Schedule for 2011

Yay! Property tax bills have arrived!

Only kidding. Taxes suck. Especially when they rise. Which they did. I didn’t expect anything less but that doesn’t make it suck any less.

But the township included this year’s recycling schedule. I compared the published dates to the site calendar and found no discrepancies. Check here when you’re in doubt.

Happy new year!

Telephone Message From the Mayor

Administrator’s note: The following message was received via Verizon POTS (plain old telephone service). I’m reproducing Mayor Womack’s message here as a public service, knowing that not everyone obtains their primary telephone service from the places the township is likely to have used when reaching out to us.

This is township mayor Mac Womack.

This call is going to individuals who live on snow emergency streets in North Brunswick. Our Director of Police and our Director of Public Works have asked me to remind everyone that during a snowstorm cars must be removed from snow emergency streets. We respectfully ask your cooperation.

Thank you.

Administrator’s note: The following message was received via Verizon POTS (plain old telephone service). I’m reproducing Mayor Womack’s message here as a public service, knowing that not everyone obtains their primary telephone service from the places the township is likely to have used when reaching out to us.

This is Francis Womack, Mayor of North Brunswick Township.

You are receiving this phone message as the town initiates its use of the new Emergency Notification System, sometimes called a Reverse 911. We intend to use this technology to communicate emergency information whenever weather events or other emergencies occur in the township. I encourage you to go to the township’s Web site at www.northbrunswickonline.com to add your cell phone or email address if you would like the township to use those methods to notify you in the event of an emergency within the township.

A snowstorm is predicted for North Brunswick Township starting Friday morning January 7th. Accumulations are expected to be less than five inches. Residents are requested to move parked cars from all streets to assist our road crews in clearing and salting our roadways. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.

If you have any questions about the new Reverse 911 Emergency Notification System please feel free to call the township: (732) 247-0922 and ask for extension 699 to leave your question. We will get back to you.

Thank you very much.

Pipeline Safety

As you already know (don’t you?) our community is close to a gas pipeline route.

The operator of the pipeline, Spectra Energy, recently contacted us to provide with material related to pipeline safety.

The Safety Summary card delivers a We Care kind of message, outlining the things Spectra Energy does to keep their pipelines operating safely and reliably. (1 MB PDF)

The Pipeline Safety brochure is a 6-page trifold with more generalized information about gas pipelines. (6 MB PDF)

These materials are reproduced on this site as part of our continuing community service efforts.

Advisory

Yesterday many/most/all of you received – or should have received – an email message sent by Janice at Executive Property Management. The subject line was Notice Regarding Electric Shutoff – 9/8/10 (Tentative) and it’s reproduced on this site for your convenience.

The reason for this advisory is to tell you that if you didn’t receive it – assuming that EPM has your correct email address on file – the message may have been culled as spam.

It was for me.

So, if you haven’t seen the message in your inbox then one or both of the following remedies may be in order.

  1. Ensure that EPM has your correct email address on file by checking your profile on the official Riverbend Web site (not this one, the official one, which doesn’t seem to be online as I’m writing).
  2. Whitelist the addresses that EPM using to send their broadcast messages.

Contact EPM if you’re still having trouble receiving their broadcast messages.

Happy New Year!

I’m pleased to tell you that the recycling dates on our calendar are now current through the end of 2010.

I’m equally displeased to report that my tax bills arrived in the same envelope. Maybe you noticed a slight reduction in your taxes? Try not to spend it all in one place.

I updated the software that runs this site to the latest and the greatest, a minor point-rev. The update was trouble-free, but as usual if you notice anything amiss then please let me know.

Enjoy the weekend.

New User Registrations

January 4, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Long-time readers may recall when I reported large numbers of spam accounts being created here, and the measures I put in place to combat them. Subsequent monitoring showed the move to be an effective one and the problem is no longer bothersome.

A side effect of these measures is that sometimes, unfortunately, a legitimate user registration may be rejected. Most of the time this is because the would-be user’s email address is with a provider that’s known for the ease with which ‘bots can create email addresses for their own use. Providers like Yahoo, Google (gmail), Hotmail, AOL, and AIM, etc. are just a tiny few examples of the more well-known providers that might be affected. To be fair, these providers work hard to serve their legitimate users. But as everyone knows, the larger the target the more attractive it becomes to spammers.

If you’re having trouble that you think might be related to this, especially if you’re trying to set up a Resident account, then please don’t just go away frustrated. Drop me a line instead and let’s get it fixed.

I’m not particularly happy that the ‘net has turned into a medium where such measures are necessary but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

I just finished a handful of software updates to the site. Everything went smoothly, but as usual if you encounter any difficulties then please let me know.

I was seriously underwhelmed by today’s massive snowstorm. The forecasts were for some serious accumulation but nothing much came of it as the front slid to our south.

The holiday season is once again upon us. Celebrate responsibly!

2010 Recycling Dates

According to North Brunswick Township officials, the recycling calendar for 2010 hasn’t been finalized yet. Still, they’ve given me the dates for the first quarter and I’ve updated our calendar.

I’m told that they will have it all nailed down in time for inclusion in our – gasp – tax bills.

Everyone needs to stay one step ahead of the spammers and abusers, right?

Today brought an upgrade for the software used to run the site, as well as a back-end administrative plug-in. Along the way the database was backed up and optimized and the sitemaps were rebuilt. Ask.com reported some trouble when they were informed of that last bit but I don’t think that it was anything to be concerned about.

As usual, if you notice anything amiss then please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the November 4 Annual Meeting!
